Kurtuvenai Regional Park (KRP) was established in 1992, with the aim to protect hilly landscape of Kurtuvenai with forested and laky surroundings, its natural ecosystem and heritage, create good recreation conditions, and encourage traditional lifestyle. Park area covers 17 252 ha, including 12 130 ha of forests. 

KRP Nature Centre is created in Jautmalkė village seat, which will be restored completely according to Samogitian architecture traditions of the end of the 1800s. There we can attend the sessions of Green School, annual camps of naturalists.

Surroundings of Kurtuvenai are attributed to Old Samogitia ethnographic region with dominating sole homesteads and eclectic villages scattered along forest edges & lakesides. People inhabited the surroundings of Kurtuvenai as early as the late Stone Age.

This festival has preserved its natural and spontaneous nature; everybody knows the process; there is no marked distance between the active characters and the audience; a lot of space for self-expression and creativity is left.
